The other day, I came across new episodes of "Wild Travels" on WTTW. The national show goes around the country showcasing the wildest and wackiest festivals and events.
- If you were like me, you said, "Hey, wait a minute. We had that in Chicago!"
State of play: "Wild Travels" is hosted and produced by the same crew that brought us the local show "Wild Chicago" decades ago.
- Will Clinger, Harvey Moshman and Dave Seman created a national version of the show, only to have it sidelined during the pandemic.
What they're saying: "We had six trips canceled," Moshman tells Axios. "Even when we got back to business, we were invited to the International Ventriloquist Convention, but they told us all the ventriloquists would be masked. So we decided to wait a year on that one."
Zoom in: Once they were back in production, the team started jet setting around the country, visiting a UFO festival in Oregon and even a redneck fishing tournament in Bath, Illinois.
- "There's just too much wildness out there to just pack it in," Clinger tells Axios. "There's just so much more to do."
Where to watch: You can watch all the new episodes here.
Zoom out: "Wild Chicago" celebrated the city's independent spirit and showcased so many alternative folks and businesses. It was a love letter to Chicago's wild counterculture scene in the 1990s. The show ended in 2003.
- In honor of "Wild Travels" carrying on the "Wild Chicago" tradition, our quiz today focuses on the city's counterculture scene.
