Utah parents scramble for after-school care

Some families are losing subsidies under new state and federal rules.

Hundreds of Utah families will start losing their child care subsidies this week — not just for daycare, but also for after-school care. Why it matters: Utah&#x27;s unmet demand for after-school care is already more critical than in most other states, according to the Afterschool Alliance&#x27;s <a class="gtmContentClick" data-vars-link-text="latest data" data-vars-click-url="https://afterschoolalliance.org/AA3PM/data/national/demand" data-vars-content-id="9aebdef2-445f-4d49-b87d-65d76dc5910a" data-vars-headline="Utah parents scramble for after-school care " data-vars-event-category="story" data-vars-sub-category="story" data-vars-item="in_content_link" href="https://afterschoolalliance.org/AA3PM/data/national/demand" target="_blank">latest data</a>.

Utah ranks second in the U.S. for library use

Cultural factors and large household sizes may contribute to why Utahns check out so many books.

The Roadless Rule protects some of Utah's best loved hikes. Trump wants to end it

Yes, there still are rules on the lands removed from Utah's national monuments

Why it matters: Some critics and supporters of Trump&#x27;s cuts have inaccurately characterized the removed lands as a free-for-all, where four-wheelers may roam at will and mine shafts will soon pock the landscape.

Report: Trump admin knew monuments allowed recreation

Trump said "You can virtually not even walk on it." Utah leaders had told him that wasn't true, per the New York Times.

We also mapped other protections and places of interest so you can see what's in and out.
