Sequels aren't usually as good as originals. But the run-up to the Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl rematch has Philly teeming with pride.
Why it matters: You don't need to score tickets to New Orleans to join the hype leading up to the big game.
From parties to championship packages and all the plot twists in between, here's everything you need to know as the Birds look to deny Kansas City a historic three-peat:
If you go: Super Bowl LIX will kick off Feb. 9 at the newly renovated Caesars Superdome, including a swanky $11 million locker room upgrade for the players.
- Kendrick Lamar will be the halftime performer, with special guest SZA.
The big picture: New Orleans, which has been preparing to host the Super Bowl for years, will be deep in the throes of Carnival.
- The season, which culminates with Mardi Gras on March 4, began this month.
- Though there are no Mardi Gras parades during Super Bowl weekend, visitors will still see touches of the season throughout the city, like decorations of purple, green and gold, and the availability of king cake in local bakeries.
Tickets
Eagles fans looking to make their way there will have to pay a pretty penny.
- All-inclusive packages cost up to nearly $14,000.
- The average Super Bowl ticket price is $8,076 on StubHub, though that's down 14% compared with last year.
But demand for tickets was soaring on StubHub as of Monday, a company spokesperson tells Axios.
- Sales are up 10% over last year so far and more than double compared with 2023, when the two last met.
Parties
Our Axios New Orleans colleagues have the lowdown on all the parties happening in the lead-up to the game.
If you can't make it, the Linc is hosting FanFest, one of several Super Bowl watch parties throughout the city.
- Plenty of pregame entertainment, including visits from Eagle alumni (Super Bowl champ Darren Sproles will be there), during the big bash, which runs from 4:30-10pm.
Storylines to watch

Saquon Barkley is chasing history.
The Eagles' star running back is 30 yards away from surpassing Denver Hall of Famer Terrell Davis for most rushing yards in a single season, including the playoffs.
- Davis rushed for 2,476 yards in 1998, the year the Broncos won the Super Bowl. He broke his own record, which he had set the year before with 2,331 yards.
Between the lines: It'd be the sweetest send-off for Barkley after he came up 101 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season record when head coach Nick Sirianni rested his starters in the team's final game.
The intrigue: Andy Reid is the winningest head coach for both franchises in the Super Bowl, per NFL reporter Ed Werder.
Context: Reid won 130 games in his 14 seasons with the with the Birds, and had a .583 winning percentage. He was 10-9 in the playoffs, a stretch that included appearances in five NFC Championships and a Super Bowl.
- But "Big Red" couldn't win the big one in Philly. He's gone on to win 140 games with Kansas City, including three titles.
Yes, but: Since being hired in 2021, Sirianni has compiled a higher winning percentage than Reid, though he's coached the Eagles in fewer games.
The bottom line: You could make a case that bringing a second Lombardi Trophy to Philly — and denying Reid's Chiefs a historic three-peat in the process — could put Sirianni in the conversation for greatest Eagles coach of all time.
- Not bad for a guy who almost lost his job last season.
