Roku announced Tuesday night that it has pulled the InfoWars app from its platform after hearing from "concerned parties," CNN's Oliver Darcy reports.

The backdrop: Per Darcy, InfoWars was previously available on Roku but "recently published an updated app," which prompted backlash from users who noticed that the conspiracy site had appeared on their streaming devices. Jones, a controversial figure who has been banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, is currently being sued by the families of the Sandy Hook school shooting for claiming the massacre was a "false flag" operation by paid actors.

Free streaming services begin to challenge subscription video

Over-the-top digital streaming TV companies that don't charge people for access are rising as consumers face saturated budgets for subscription content.

Why it matters: While data shows consumers today are generally less tolerant of ads, the rise of these services shows that there's still an appetite for advertising if it's relevant — and if it means consumers can access their favorite content without having to pay a subscription fee.
