Trans comedy protest tour "Here to Pee" coming to St. Petersburg

• A portion of ticket sales will go toward LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations with the goal of fighting anti-trans legislation.
• St. Pete's show will benefit Tampa Bay's TransNetwork.

What they're saying: "Trans people have a right to be here: to live full lives, to tell stories, to tell jokes, to pee in peace," tour organizer and comedian Ren Q. Dawe posted on Instagram.

State of play: Dawe booked shows in all 50 states and has traveled through 42 so far. St. Pete is the only stop in Florida.

The big picture: Gov. Ron DeSantis in recent years has turned Florida into a test kitchen for policies targeting LGBTQ+ people, although such efforts began to stall last year.

• Since the 2022 law critics dubbed "Don't Say Gay," DeSantis and state lawmakers have passed policies that restrict bathroom use, medical care, identification and expression for transgender people.
• Republican leaders from Texas to Oklahoma to the White House have followed suit.
