Washington voters are deciding four ballot measures that, if approved, would change the state's tax system and roll back measures designed to combat climate change.
State of play: One of the biggest fights is over Initiative 2117, which would repeal the state's cap-and-trade law that places a price on carbon emissions.
- A majority "yes" vote on the initiative would get rid of the antipollution law, while a "no" vote would keep the law in place.

Voters are also deciding whether to repeal Washington's tax on capital gains.
Initiative 2109, if approved, would eliminate the tax, which applies to certain profits from selling assets such as stocks and bonds.

Initiative 2124, meanwhile, would make participation in Washington's long-term care program optional.
- If it passes, workers could opt out of paying the 0.58% payroll tax that funds the WA Cares program, which provides money for nursing care and other services people may need as they age.
- I-2124's opponents say the initiative would effectively kill the program, which provides a maximum lifetime benefit of up to $36,500 per person.

Initiative 2166 would block state and local governments from discouraging the use of natural gas.
- If it passes, it will require changes to Washington's newly adopted building codes, which promote the use of electric heat pumps over natural gas systems.
