Salt Lake City officials unveil next steps for Smith's Ballpark site

State of play: The three proposals — by the firm Perkins&Will — will include options to:

• Preserve the entire stadium
• Partially readapt or demolish the stadium
• Demolish the venue entirely

What's next: The firm's designs will be brought to Ballpark community stakeholders in November for feedback before they are presented to the city's redevelopment planners in December, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said.

What they're saying: "In terms of the fate of the baseball structure, nothing has been decided yet. Everything is still on the table," Perkins&Will project manager Marc Asnis said.

Catch up quick: It's been nearly two years since the Larry H. Miller Company announced it was moving the Minor League Baseball team to a new stadium in South Jordan's Daybreak community.

• The city launched a competition at the time inviting the public to submit their design proposals.

What we're watching: The city is currently in negotiations with the University of Utah for its baseball team to potentially play its 2025 season at the ballpark.

• The university is currently building its own stadium which is expected to be completed in 2026.
