Portland's vegans are back on top

• As for this year, WalletHub gave Rose City high marks for having the second-largest number of affordable restaurants with vegan and vegetarian options, as well as abundant access to organic farms and community gardens.
• Portland also had "the ninth-highest percentage of people who consume vegetables daily." Any bets on one of those veggies being kale?

Zoom in: Portland vegans have an overwhelming number of choices when it comes to finding plant-based, dairy- and meat-free fare. There are vegan grocery stores, doughnut shops, strip clubs, ice cream trucks, Detroit-style deep dish, Sri Lankan cuisine, taquerias and patisseries, as well as entire festivals and night markets.

• And while some of our favorite vegan restaurants have closed (I'm still bitter about losing Fermenter and Canteen), many more have popped up in their place.
• The city recently welcomed In-N-Out-style drive-thru Face Plant and fine-dining hot spot Astera to round out our roster.

The bottom line: This tofu trophy is just another feather in the beanie for our kombucha-sipping, fixie-pedaling, grass-fed reputation, I guess.
