Portland newest vegan drive-thru opens

Face Plant, the new all-vegan drive-thru and dine-in restaurant, will host a soft opening today and I got to try several of the menu items ahead of time.

Best bites: The menu is pretty straightforward, with single- and double-patty burgers, nuggets, fries, shakes and fountain drinks.

• "The Fancy" is the main event. Made with Impossible Foods faux meat and Molly Baz's proprietary spice blend, it comes topped with tomato, onion, lettuce and In-N-Out-style sauce.
• Yes, but: It was the nuggets, which were perfectly golden and crispy, and dip that got top marks from me.

The bottom line: It took me nearly an hour to get through the drive-thru line, so if you plan to go, be prepared to wait. And, just as one crew member assured me, the food was perfectly hot.
