New vegan drive-thru, Face Plant, to open in North Portland

• Frustrated with the lack of quick plant-based meals, founder Matt Plitch saw a gap in the market and tapped his friend Baz to tackle the creation of a truly delicious vegan burger — one beef-eaters would reach for, too.

After three years of recipe development, the two are ready to launch their proprietary spice blend and revamp of already established vegan products, like Impossible Foods, in none other than the home of premier planted-based eateries: Portland.

Best bites: Menu items will resemble those of other fast-food chains: Burgers, fries, nuggets and shakes — but with no dairy or meat involved.

• Burgers will cost between $5 and $7, and combos will be up to $11.

Plus: Taking a page from the In-N-Out playbook, staff will take orders car-side instead of over an intercom.
