Portland's outdoor community pools open for summer

As Stefon would say, the hottest club in Portland is not The Goodfoot or The Coffin Club but any of the city's many outdoor community pools.

Why it matters: If you're not bold enough to take a dip in the surrounding rivers — the Willamette and the Columbia hover around a chilly 65 degrees in the summer — a public pool could be your best option to cool down.

The latest: Six of the seven outdoor pools opened for the summer this week. The one that didn't is Montavilla, which is set to welcome swimmers July 22 after plumbing maintenance.

Five pools — Grant, Ida B. Wells, Pier, Montavilla and Sellwood — are only open for a nine-week window and close for the season on Aug. 23.
The last day for swimming at Peninsula and Creston is Sept. 6.

If you go: Every outdoor pool offers at least one day of free entry (check your local pool here); otherwise, admission is $4 for kids 12 and under, $5 for ages 13 to 17, and $6 for adults. Discounts are available.

Most pools close for the day at 8pm.
Children under 48" are required to have a parent or guardian in the water with them.
You are permitted to bring your own floaties and pool noodles, but larger floats are not allowed. You can also bring in food and drink but no glass containers.
