The third round of No Kings rallies is set for Philadelphia's Center City and other spots across the region this weekend.
Why it matters: The potentially large-scale protests will prompt daylong road closures and traffic delays on Saturday.
The big picture: More than 3,100 No Kings events are planned across all 50 states and around the globe this weekend — more than any previous mobilization efforts from the group.
- The day could be one of the largest single-day nonviolent nationwide protests in U.S. history, per organizers.
State of play: The rally in Philly will run from noon to roughly 3:30pm, with protesters starting at City Hall and then marching down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
- Speeches will start at around 1:15pm at the Parkway and 22nd Street.
- Speakers include U.S. Rep. Brendan Boyle; Arthur Steinberg, president of the Philly teachers union; and activist Michael Coard.
Plus: Other protests are planned in Northeast Philly; Chestnut Hill and Mt. Airy; Ardmore; Havertown; Ambler; Springfield; and Camden, New Jersey.
Context: The latest round of No Kings protests comes weeks after President Trump and Israel launched a campaign against Iran, which has sent gas prices surging.
- Plus: Trump sent ICE agents to airports across the country this week, including Philadelphia International Airport.
🚧 Road closures: All lanes of the Parkway will close between 20th Street and Binswanger Triangle starting at 7am.
- From 9am to roughly 2pm, 15th and 16th Streets will close between Market Street and Arch Street in the 1400-1500 blocks, and the Parkway from 16th-20th Streets.
- The Parkway will remain closed between 18th Street and Binswanger Triangle through approximately 5pm.
🚫 You've been warned: Plan for significant traffic delays during the protest, the city said in a released statement.
🅿️ Parking restrictions: Look for "No Parking" signs throughout the area.
- Pro tip: If you think your vehicle has been relocated by the city, contact the police district of the area where your car was parked.
🚌 SEPTA will detour more than a dozen bus routes beginning at 8am on Saturday, including 2, 4, 48 and 125.
🚨 Security: The city is advising protesters not to leave bags unattended.
What we're watching: Turnout in Philly could be significant.
- Case in point: A No Kings protest last year drew an estimated 80,000 people.
Editor's note: This story and its headline have been corrected to show the protests are March 28 (not this weekend).
