Here's who's performing at the Super Bowl LIX pregame

The latest: Super Bowl LIX, slated for Feb. 9, 2025, in New Orleans, will feature locally born stars Jon Batiste, Trombone Shorty and Ledisi during pregame performances.

• Lafayette native Lauren Daigle will also be part of the show, the NFL announced.

The intrigue: City leaders have said the NFL wants to incorporate local cultural touch points for the big game.

• The NFL appeared on track with that decision early in 2024 when it tapped Mardi Gras Indian Queen Tahj to design the event logo.
• That's why the announcement about Lamar, an Oakland, California, native, was puzzling for some, especially because New Orleans is so well known for its music.

Lil Wayne in particular was raised as possible performer, but the New Orleans native wasn't selected.

• Instead, the pair have traded barbs in performances and about the perceived slight.

What they're saying: "We're honored to work with this year's pregame lineup to celebrate the rich musical legacy of New Orleans and the entire state," said NFL music head Seth Dudowsky.

• "The Super Bowl is a rare moment to unite fans around the world, and this year's performers will bring the energy, soul and vibrant sounds of the region to a global stage, as we kickoff Super Bowl LIX with a celebration to remember."

Zoom in: Batiste — who's hot on the promotion trail now to support his latest release, the classically focused album "Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1)" — will perform the national anthem.

• Trombone Shorty will pair up with Daigle for "America the Beautiful."
• And Ledisi will perform "Lift Every Voice and Sing."
