After a year and 29 games, Anthony Davis is no longer a Dallas Maverick.
Why it matters: The Mavs are in the middle of a losing season and haven't recovered their magic after last year's bombshell trade that sent Luka DonΔiΔ to Los Angeles and brought Davis to Dallas.
Driving the news: An eight-player trade ends the brief AD era in Dallas, reports ESPN's Shams Charania.
Dallas sent Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham and Marvin Bagley III. The Mavs will also get two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders, ESPN reports.
Catch up quick: Davis has been out with a hurt hand since early January after playing 20 games this season.
He played just nine games after arriving in Dallas last season. Davis was sidelined with multiple injuries during his Mavericks tenure, including six weeks following an adductor strain during his first game in blue and green.
Friction point: Fans spent months chanting "Fire Nico" after last year's trade, referring to general manager Nico Harrison who was fired in November.
Some fans still hold out hope that DonΔiΔ will come home.
What we're watching: Whether MFFLs can put the DonΔiΔ trade behind them now that Davis is gone.
The Mavs have the 2025 No. 1 draftee Cooper Flagg, who is averaging 20 points a game β the most on the team.
