After sampling the chow at Rate Field Thursday, I checked out some intriguing upcoming promotions — including a bidet-sponsored bobblehead and a Sox-adorned pope hat.
- Clearly, I need to go to more ballgames.
Bidet bonus: On Sunday, the first 15,000 fans at Rate Field will get a Toto Washlet bidet-sponsored Murakami bobblehead, and have the chance to see the Toto bidet Murakami uses.
- No, you can't go into the team clubhouse where Sox players have been enjoying the $700-plus toilet seat that deodorizes and sprays warm water, but you can check out a mobile demo near gate 5.
- Sox officials say Murakami requested the special bidet before he joined the team and his teammates have been loving it ever since. Maybe it's their secret sauce this year.
Expanded by Pope-ular demand: On August 11, every fan in the stadium will be offered a special new papal-style hat, honoring Pope Leo XIV, the world's most famous Sox fan.
- At first it was going to be restricted to people with a special ticket, but Sox officials said Thursday that a huge fan response inspired them to make 40,000 hats so "we can give it to all fans."
- "It's something fun, something unique and hopefully something that will be remembered for a long, long time," Sox chief revenue officer Brooks Boyer told reporters.
