Fox 32 political reporter and editor Paris Schutz is leaving the Chicago station, sources tell Axios.
The big picture: Schutz, who replaced longtime political reporter Mike Flannery. His contract is set to expire this week.
- He also hosted "The Chicago Report," which airs on the Fox 32 stream and airs at 10pm Monday through Thursday.
- Schutz moderated political debates, covered the Democratic National Convention and is active on social media.
Context: Schutz joined Fox 32 after a long run at Chicago's PBS station, WTTW. He started as a producer for "Chicago Tonight" and worked his way up to host the program before departing in 2024.
The intrigue: Beyond his work in television, Schutz is also a musician who just released a new album last month. He was a frequent performer at Davenport's in Wicker Park before that club closed last year.
Zoom out: His departure comes as local newsrooms continue to shift. NBC Chicago hired sports anchor Lou Cannelis from Fox 32 earlier this year and WGN-TV laid off several personalities, including Dean Richards, in February.
What's next: It's unclear what Schutz's next career move will be. Sources say he's expected to remain in broadcast television.
