Open House Chicago adds 30 stops to citywide event

The Chicago Architecture Center's annual Open House Chicago festival features more than 200 sites across the city, including 30 new ones this year.
Why it matters: The free, two-day event opens historic landmarks, businesses, places of worship and even private homes to the public, giving visitors a better understanding of the vast styles that make Chicago one of the most revered architectural cities in the world.
If you go: Open House Chicago takes place Saturday and Sunday, with meeting spots in Ravenswood, Bridgeport and North Lawndale offering restroom access and CAC representatives stationed to answer questions.
- Lines can get pretty long, especially at the new spots, so map out your visit to hit as many locations as possible.
- CAC members and volunteers receive a priority pass that allows them to jump to the front of the line.
State of play: Additions this year include Bertrand Goldberg's Hilliard Tower Apartments in Chinatown, the late producer Steve Albini's Electrical Audio studio in Avondale and Aspire Center in Austin.
The intrigue: Photographers can submit up to five photos snapped this weekend for consideration at a future exhibition at the CAC.
- Images can be submitted across five categories: interior, exterior, detail, black and white, and people and buildings.
💭 My thought bubble: OHC is such a wonderful kickoff to Chicago's fall cultural calendar and a great way to explore incredible architecture beyond downtown (there's some great ones down there, too!).
