Chicago's own Jennifer Hudson gave plenty of shoutouts to her hometown at this year's CultureCon, and detailed how the city continues to shape her.
The big picture: The two-day conference last weekend in Brooklyn brought together Black and brown creatives, media professionals and entrepreneurs.

Catch up quick: Founded in 2017, CultureCon was created to fill a gap for people of color looking for resources and opportunities to grow professionally, while celebrating Black fashion and culture.

Zoom in: EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winner Hudson, currently host of her eponymous daytime-talk show, told attendees those looking to enter any creative industry should carve out their own lane and trust their own vision.
- Hudson grew up in Englewood and shot to stardom after appearing on season 3 of "American Idol."

What they're saying: "Within your art and your craft, you have to be in tune with yourself and Chicago keeps my feet planted. That (Chicago) is my base that no matter what I go off to do, it allows me to be able to tap back into my foundation which is home," Hudson shared with attendees.

Fun fact: "I still live in Chicago, I just work elsewhere. Home is home," Hudson told Axios.
Hudson's best day ever? With a demanding career, Hudson enjoys spending time with family in the city that keeps her humble.
🚲 "Riding my bike on the lake."
😋 "I need a little barbecue, a cookout with family and friends."
🏡 "I love to sit on the front porch and watch the cars go by."
