Chuck Goudie says he has solved mob boss Sam Giancana's 1975 murder

Flashback: Giancana was the boss of Al Capone's mafia crime family "The Outfit" in the 1950s, decades after Capone made it famous. Giancana has been linked to several high-profile national and international crimes, including the assassination of JFK.

• In the 1960s, Giancana served a year for contempt of court.
• In 1975, he was murdered in his Oak Park home.
• The crime has never been solved.

What they're saying: "Just because a crime was committed 50 years ago and the police files have been gathering dust, it doesn't mean that it can't be solved," Goudie said in a statement.

• "Sometimes a fresh set of eyes, new conversations with stakeholders and an interest in answering the question: 'Who killed Momo?' are incentives enough to shake loose a solution."

Zoom in: Goudie says he has gathered new information, including forensic evidence from the gun used to kill Giancana, and promises to unveil the legendary mobster's killer with his two-part series that airs Wednesday and Thursday on the NBC 5 News at 10pm.

The intrigue: Goudie was dumped by ABC-7 in January, but quickly moved up the dial to NBC 5. The longtime investigative reporter was honored last week with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago Headline Club.
