Jewel-Osco dominates market share in Chicago area

New data was released on grocery store market shares in the Chicago area.
State of play: We still love Jewel.
- Albertson's (owner of Jewel) continues to lead the pack in our area, while Kroger's (owner of Mariano's) saw a 3% increase in its market share from last year.
By the numbers: There are 176 Jewel-Osco stores in the greater metro area.
- There are 33 Mariano's Fresh Market stores.
- Batavia-based Aldi has more than 160 stores, but less than 4% of market share.
Reality check: You may be surprised to see Whole Foods and Trader Joe's all the way at the bottom, but that is because this is a survey of the entire Chicago area, not just the city.
