Chicago restaurants and businesses that have closed in 2025

Here are some notable closings from January:

Rough start for brick-and-mortar stores: Under Armour off the Mag Mile and Anthropologie at Gallery 37 have closed, and Best Buy near the Rogers Park/Evanston border will close March 1.

• Anthropologie is moving to a new development on North State Street near the Rush Street neighborhood.

Where will we see photos of Bon Jovi while we eat? The Hard Rock Cafe outlasted most of its touristy counterparts in River North, but it's closing its doors in March.

Suburban gems are not immune: ​​Mattson's Western Steak House and Saloon in Burbank closed after more than 50 years in the south suburb. The owner is retiring. It's unclear what will happen to the iconic sign.

• Also, the Oak Park pharmacy Segreti closed up shop after 60-plus years in the western suburb.

A Thai food legend: Arun's in Albany Park shut its doors during the holidays. The upscale Thai restaurant is helmed by award-winning chef Arun Sampanthavivat. Arun was part of a movement of new restaurants that helped put Chicago on the foodie map in the late '90s.

Now where will we drink after softball? It's not official yet, but the Logan Square/Hermosa dive bar Weegee's may be closing after almost 20 years on Armitage.

Gone but may return: After 21 years of serving Indo-Latin and Indo-Chinese fare in River North, restaurateur Rohini Dey closed Vermilion. She tells Axios she is developing a women-centric concept.

Other notable closings: Holu in Chinatown, Jaleo in River North, 90 Miles Cuban Cafe in Roscoe Village and Sojourn in the Davis Theater in Lincoln Square.
