Yes, but: Which city does Notre Dame belong to?

• The answer is complicated. Chicago is the closest big city to the South Bend school, but Indianapolis shares the Hoosier state with the golden domers.

Axios Indianapolis' Arika Herron argues for Indy:

• Notre Dame is within Indiana's border and the Fighting Irish football team has long been a great source of state pride. TBH, it's the best thing we have going for us right now and you can't lay claim to it — even if we are trying to steal some of your counties.

While Axios Chicago's Justin Kaufmann fights for the Windy City:

• Heck yeah Notre Dame is Chicago! We don't just win in proximity to South Bend, but our city has big-time Catholic roots. Anyone who grew up in Chicago identifies their neighborhood by the parish they attended rather than the street boundaries. Also, sports bars! You'd think Notre Dame was the only game in town judging by the annoying amount of revelers dressed in green and gold clogging up the streets on a Saturday morning.
