Claire's to sell at Walgreens stores nationwide

Hoffman Estates-based accessories giant Claire's is coming to a Walgreens aisle near you.

The big picture: Claire's is expanding its products to Walgreens stores across the country. The partnership between the two major hometown corporations comes as many malls — where Claire's was first popularized — fall vacant and boutique piercing studios bring new competition.

The intrigue: Some have praised the company for adapting and staying relevant over the years.

  • Fast Company included Claire's on its 2023 list of Most Innovative Companies, crediting it for "eschewing the low-rent mall locations that it used to inhabit and instead targeting higher-end malls and shopping streets that see a lot of foot traffic."

Context: Claire's is already in Macy's, CVS, Kohl's and other major retailers.

Between the lines: Claire's core demographic is "Gen Zalpha," which is a combo of Gen Z, generally seen as ages 12-27, and Gen Alpha, which is anyone up to age 12, which the company calls the "most diverse, savvy and empathetic generation yet."

  • Last month, Claire's launched an ad campaign featuring pre-teens and teens whose talents include fashion design and music, and even a young film producer.

What's next: Claire's aims to be in 4,400 Walgreens by month's end.
