Chicago thrift shops to donate and buy secondhand goods

• Winnetka Thrift Shop: Reader Catherine B. says that "every penny supports the Counseling Center of the North Shore."
• Mercy Beaucoup in Old Town: Owned and operated by Mercy Home for Boys & Girls.
• Out of the Closet in Lakeview is "a great thrift store that provides HIV services and education," Kris A. says.
• Monarch Thrift in Avondale is large, clean and reasonably priced, J.H. says.
• Brown Elephant has locations in Andersonville, Lakeview and Oak Park, but Pat C. also recommends Oak Park's Economy Shop.
• Wings Resale in Arlington Heights, Schaumburg and Niles helps families who are fleeing domestic violence.
