January was a banner month for Audacy-owned Chicago radio stations.
Big picture: The radio company had filed for bankruptcy in January, but that didn't stop stations like WBBM-AM, WXRT-FM and WSCR-AM, who all outperformed last month.
George Soros' investment firm now controls Audacy after a deal struck in February.
Winners:The Score (WSCR-AM) entered the top 10 for the first time in months, riding listeners' interest in the NFL playoffs while leading the conversation about the Bears QB position.
Losers: It's hard to say WLIT-FM is a loser, but the No. 1 station in Chicago dropped nine points from its record 16.0 share over the holidays, when it played nonstop holiday music.
The intrigue: All talk stations jumped in January, perhaps because of interest in the upcoming 2024 election season.
Of note: These ratings don't break down precisely when people are tuning in, nor specific listener demographics.
Disclosure: Justin Kaufmann has worked for a number of these stations.
