Atlanta Hawks merch store to open at Centennial Yards

Atlanta Hawks fans will soon have a brick-and-mortar store to shop for all the merch they need to cheer on the home team.
Why it matters: Fanatics' store opening will be the first time Hawks gear will be available to purchase throughout the year outside State Farm Arena, Centennial Yards said in a press release.
The latest: Fanatics will open a store featuring Hawks gear at the $5 billion mixed-use development that's rising from the area once known as the Gulch.
- The store, slated to open next year, is also part of a deal that allows Fanatics to operate the Hawks' online and retail sales operations at State Farm Arena.
- A new domain, HawksShop.com, goes live on Oct. 19 and will serve as the official Fanatics website where team gear can be purchased.
What they're saying: Andrew Saltzman, president of business enterprise and chief commercial officer of the Hawks and State Farm Arena, said the agreement will give Hawks fans a "world-class retail experience."
- Centennial Yards president Brian McGowan said Fanatics' decision to open a store in the mixed-use development "says something about where Downtown Atlanta is headed."
- "We're seeing that momentum across the district, from new restaurants and entertainment to residences and hotels," he said in a press release.
State of play: Fanatics' announcement comes months after Centennial Yards welcomed Hotel Phoenix; The Mitchell, a 302-unit luxury residential development; restaurants like The Irish Exit and Shake Shack; and Cosm.
- Additional restaurants like The Busy Bee Cafe, Varuni Napoli and Park Bench are expected to open in the coming months.
- Live Nation's 5,400-seat venue and Virgin Hotel Atlanta will open next year, Centennial Yards said.
- Once completed, Centennial Yards will span 50 acres from South Downtown to Castleberry Hill next to State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
