- Fear not: We've got movie news and fresh seafood recommendations to get you closer to the weekend.
🌤️ Today's weather: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83°.
Situational awareness: Attorney General Dana Nessel charged 16 pro-Trump fake electors yesterday who participated in an alleged scheme to overturn the 2020 election, Axios' Erin Doherty reports.

Behold, the duality of film.
Driving the news: Starting tomorrow, you can watch a pink-laden Barbie venture into the real world — or moody atomic bomb creator Oppenheimer usher in a new world.
- You could also join the masses in making this a unique double feature event. The movies have the potential to be big box office hits despite theatrical releases struggling to recover from the pandemic.
- Movie buffs are hyped about these two disparate movies releasing at the same time and are arguing about the order in which to watch them — darkness first and then a cute palette cleanser? Or the other way around?
State of play: Excitement for the films has spread all over the internet, spurring endless memes and "Barbiecore" fashion.
- Warner Bros. Pictures and the Downtown Detroit Partnership partnered last week to bring a Barbie-themed beach party to Campus Martius.
What's happening: We've laid out what you need to know to take part in the "Barbenheimer" phenomenon locally.
- "Barbie" begins showing tomorrow around 3pm and "Oppenheimer" mostly around 5pm (even though the technical release date for both movies is Friday).
- While many premiere events are sold out, a surprising number of tickets to see either movie tomorrow are still available at nearby theaters like MJR in Warren, Emagine Royal Oak and AMC in Madison Heights.
- Though local theaters don't appear to be advertising double features, thousands of people are choosing to book both films on the same day, per IndieWire.
- Detroit's sole traditional theater, Bel Air Luxury Cinema, has "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" showtimes listed for tomorrow starting around 3pm.
Be smart: "Oppenheimer" director Christopher Nolan shot the film to be shown on distinctive, immersive IMAX 70mm screens. There are fewer than 30 of these special theaters worldwide and one of them is in Detroit — the Chrysler IMAX Dome Theatre at the Michigan Science Center.
What they're saying: "I keep hearing 'Oppenheimer' is Nolan's most disturbing and ambitious project, so I think I’m going to need to sit with it for a few days," Ishan Biswas of Farmington Hills told the Detroit News.
- The News also spoke with someone who's gearing up for "Barbie" — Jameel Baksh of Dearborn, who said, "I'm definitely excited to see the costumes and set, because it seems so accurate to the toy design."
2. Bite Club: Detroit's best oysters

👋🏼 Sam here. We're in the thick of summer and for me, that means ordering a dozen oysters at every restaurant that serves them.
The intrigue: We're not known for great seafood, and when I asked for the best spot, some locals replied and said it doesn't even exist.
- I'm here to prove the doubters wrong. Here are the best places to get oysters in Detroit:
Selden Standard: The $20 per half dozen oysters here taste fresh and come with classic mignonette.
- The restaurant's homemade hot sauce has a rich, deep flavor.

The Statler: I was surprised that this French restaurant has the second-best oysters that I tried on this mission.
- The Statler offers East (salty) or West Coast (sweet) oysters at market price and serves them with mignonette and an excellent homemade cocktail sauce.
Mink: Without much debate, at least in my eyes, Mink serves the best oysters in Detroit ($44 per dozen).
- Along with a variety of oysters, the Corktown bar also offers an $85 five-course chef's tasting menu, which includes two sweet and savory oysters each (East Coast fermented strawberry and West Coast fermented tomato water).
- Take your shellfish-friendly significant other here and have your mind blown like mine was.

4. Where in Detroit winners: New Center Park

👋🏽 Hey! Sam here again. A number of you correctly guessed that I was outside New Center Park last week.
The intrigue: While the park was unfortunately closed when I walked by, it hosts a free outdoor movie night featuring a mix of old and new films on the first and third Fridays of the month during the summer
- For everyone who needs to see a non-"Barbenheimer" movie this weekend, the park is scheduled to screen "Till" (2022) this Friday at dusk.
👏🏽 Congratulations to Marian R., William M., Nandi C. and Rochelle S. for guessing correctly and being randomly chosen to win some free Axios swag! We'll reach out soon.
