It was a headline-packed, topsy-turvy year for D.C.-area real estate.
The big picture: The DMV saw a surge in splashy "Trump bump" sales as mega-wealthy administration members and POTUS orbiters snagged lux spots in the area.
- Yes, but: At the same time, the larger real estate market slowed due to President Trump's federal cuts and crackdown.
State of play: Here's a look back at some of the year's buzziest news:
David Sacks buys $10.3 million Northwest D.C. pad
- Axios D.C. scooped the news in January about Trump's White House AI and crypto czar (and PayPal co-founder) picking up the four-bedroom, six-bathroom spot, complete with a private elevator and a 24/7 concierge service.
Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank lists Maryland horse estate
- Plank originally listed Sagamore Farm for $22 million in February, then later dropped the price to $18.5 million.
- The listing includes a 16,000-square-foot main house and grounds for breeding, training and racing horses.
JD Vance lists Alexandria home for $1.7 million
- The VP put his Del Ray home on the market in February after moving to the Naval Observatory, and ultimately sold it for almost $1.9 million — to someone who worked in Trump's first administration.
Kelly Loeffler's husband buys $5 million Wharf condo
- Axios D.C. scooped the news that Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher — married to Loeffler, the Small Business Administration head — picked up a lux condo in March.
- The spot: three bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, with Southwest waterfront views.
Mark Zuckerberg snags $23 million D.C. property in all-cash sale
- The tech titan bought a Woodland Normanstone manse in March, marking the third-most expensive transaction in D.C. history.
RFK Jr. buys $4.4 million Georgetown house
- The Health and Human Services secretary snagged the four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath townhouse in April, making him Georgetown neighbors with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who bought a $12.5 million home earlier this year.
The huge McLean house everyone's talking about
- A ginormous mansion under construction on Georgetown Pike got tongues wagging this year, as it will likely be the biggest ever built in McLean — and maybe one of the region's largest.
- Inside, expect at least 10 bedrooms and bathrooms, five kitchen areas, two elevators, a reception hall and a ballroom.
