Coffee TAB opens in former Starbucks space in Central District

A new coffee shop has opened in the heart of Seattle's Central District, with a mission of training people for careers in the coffee industry.
The big picture: The opening of Coffee TAB at 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street brings new life to a space that had sat empty for four years.
Context: Coffee TAB is a nonprofit that runs a barista training program, hiring young people for eight- to 12-week apprenticeships.
- The space it occupies at 23rd and Jackson was previously home to a Starbucks that closed in 2022.
- The nonprofit has two other locations, in Pioneer Square and Belltown.
What to expect: Inside the new location, floor-to-ceiling windows provide loads of natural light.
- Several of the tables can seat four to six people, making it a good spot for groups.
- The cafe uses beans from Seattle-based Fulcrum Coffee Roasters and offers pastries from Alki Bakery.
My thought bubble: The neighborhood has truly needed another coffee option — just ask the crowds waiting in line at nearby Temple Pastries every weekend.
