Homicides in Seattle fell dramatically in the first nine months of this year, outpacing the decline seen in most other large cities nationwide.
By the numbers: Seattle recorded 24 homicides between January and September, compared to 47 during the same period in 2024, according to stats compiled by the Major Cities Chiefs Association.
That's a 49% decline — and the third biggest drop in homicides among the 67 U.S. cities included in the association's report.
Across those 67 cities, the overall number of homicides dropped a more modest 19%.
Zoom in: Seattle also saw declines in rapes, robberies and aggravated assaults compared to last year, the data shows.
