Summer temperatures are hanging around longer in Seattle and nationwide, a new analysis finds, as climate change affects the seasons.
By the numbers: In Seattle, summer temperatures now linger an average of five days longer into fall compared to 1970, per a new report from Climate Central, a climate research group.
How it works: Climate Central's analysis is based on NOAA data and reflects the last date each year with highs equal to or greater than historical summer-like temperatures.
The group defined "summer-like temperatures" as the 75th percentile of daily highs during the 1991–2000 climate normal, which in Seattle was 70℉.
State of play: Temperatures in Seattle are forecast to reach the mid-80s on Tuesday and the mid-70s on Wednesday.
