A brand-newbaby orca was spotted this week cruising alongside its mom north of Seattle.
Why it matters: It's the second seemingly healthy baby born to the endangered southern resident killer whales' J Pod in just four months, according to the Center for Whale Research.
Catch up quick: J63's birth follows the loss of J61, a calf that died days after birth, and the arrival of J62, a thriving female.
What we're watching: Researchers will monitor J63, as a calf's first year is often the toughest, per the whale research center.
