Voodoo Doughnuts, the Portland shop known for its eccentric flavor combinations, opened its first Seattle shop on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. But when it comes to fried dough consumption, several local shops hold the top spots in our hearts.
Zoom In: Top Pot and Mighty O are longtime Seattle staples, and we won't knock them here. But Seattle's selection of doughnut shops has grown considerably in recent years. Here are some of our favorites.
Doce Donut

This Fremont doughnut shop uses raised brioche dough, producing doughnuts that incorporate Latin American flavors. Be sure to try the guava con queso and the passionfruit creme brulee.
Half and Half Doughnut

This Capitol Hill spot excels at making old-fashioned doughnuts with eye-catching icing combinations.
- You can also find tasty filled doughnuts, cronuts, raised sprinkle doughnuts, and savory biscuits that give the doughnuts a run for their money.
General Porpoise

If you want a light and fluffy filled doughnut, head to one of General Porpoise's four Seattle locations. Flavors change seasonally. (They have a gingerbread cream option right now.) The lemon curd is a standout.
Dough Joy

Dough Joy excels at making raised doughnuts that happen to be vegan.
- If it's available, try the Popstar — a Pop-Tart-inspired doughnut with strawberry filling, vanilla icing, sprinkles and a light dusting of streusel topping.
Family Donut
This shop in Northgate is known to sell out, especially on weekends, and uses fresh ingredients that stand out in its glazes.
- One Axios Seattle reader attested that they make "the absolute best apple fritter ever."
Raised Doughnuts

A kid who wants a chocolate bar or plain maple bar will be happy at this Central District shop. But so will adults who want to try more adventurous flavors like blackberry chevre, cranberry thyme, or white chocolate peppermint bark.
- Raised also sells a savory everything bagel doughnut and cake slices.
Dona Queen

If you're looking for the light, airy simplicity of the perfect glazed doughnut or glazed twist, Dona Queen in SoDo is hard to beat — though they offer filled options and fritters as well.
Good Day Donuts

This shop in White Center has a good selection of vegan doughnuts and doughnut staples. Try the French crullers on Saturdays and blueberry cake doughnuts on Sundays.
Dochi

The Seattle outpost of this mochi doughnut maker is located in the Uwajimaya Food Hall in the Chinatown-International District.
- While there are always fun flavors to try, you can't go wrong with the cookies and cream doughnut, which is punched up with a dose of Oreo and cookie butter.
