Voters in Southwest Washington have reelected U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez in one of the country's most competitive House races, the Associated Press reports.
State of play: The contest in Washington's 3rd Congressional District was listed by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report as one of only two dozen toss-up House races nationwide.
- Gluesenkamp Perez defeated Republican Joe Kent, who is backed by former President Trump. AP called the race Saturday for Gluesenkamp Perez.
Catch up quick: The two candidates squared off again after facing each other in 2022, when Gluesenkamp Perez narrowly pulled off an upset victory.
- On the campaign trail, Gluesenkamp Perez called some of Kent's views "too extreme," such as his denial of the 2020 election results and his opposition to abortion.
- Kent, in turn, accused Gluesenkamp Perez of being soft on border security and supporting policies he says led to increased inflation.
