Washington voters have chosen Democrat Bob Ferguson to be their first new governor in 12 years, after Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee decided not to seek a fourth term.
The latest: The Associated Press called the race for Ferguson about 30 minutes after polls closed in Tuesday's election.
Ferguson, the state's current attorney general, defeated Republican Dave Reichert in the race for the open job.
Catch up quick: Reichert is a former King County sheriff who served 14 years in the U.S. House.
On the campaign trail this year, the candidates clashed over abortion, homelessness, tax policy and more.
