More than one million Washington residents in schools, businesses, and homes have signed up to "drop, cover, and hold on" during the Great Washington ShakeOut today at 10:17am.
Some schools will practice evacuations and coastal communities will hear a test of their tsunami sirens.
Drills like the ShakeOut help residents and businesses prepare, strengthening readiness and awareness, according to the Washington Emergency Management Division.
What they're saying: "Practicing builds muscle memory for when the real earthquake comes," emergency management spokesperson Steven Friederich wrote in an email to Axios.
What's happening: Join the drill and make sure you're signed up for emergency alerts at mil.wa.gov/alerts.
