We asked ChatGPT to roast Seattle and it told us: "Seattleites are so passive-aggressive, they'll thank the rain for keeping the tourists away."
Why it matters: Many of us are indeed grateful to our long wet season for keeping visitors clear for a few months and some newcomers out.
The big picture: The idea came from an Instagram reel of someone asking the AI chatbot to pretend it's a comedian and roast the people of a city.
- We used the same prompt with the city of Seattle, and it got us with a couple of well-aimed zingers.
First, it came after our introversion and the Seattle Freeze.
- "How do you find a native Seattleite at a party? They're the one who left an hour ago without saying goodbye."
- "Welcome to Seattle, where we'll smile at you from across the street, but the moment you say 'hi,' we'll ghost you like a bad Tinder date."
Then, it mocked our love of coffee and dark spaces.
- "How many Seattleites does it take to change a lightbulb? None — they'll just sit in the dark and drink coffee."
- "You all really took 'seasonal affective disorder' as a design aesthetic, didn't you? Everything is either a shade of gray or black, like color was too mainstream for you. 'No, thanks, we'll just stick to the palette of a dystopian novel.'"
It's aware of our relationship with the sun.
- "You all treat those rare sunny days like some kind of miracle. It's like the clouds part, and you suddenly remember you're allowed to go outside. The whole city emerges like you're auditioning for a musical number."
Chat GPT even knows of our reputation as a protest-friendly city.
- "Protesting is basically the city's second-favorite pastime — right after complaining about the weather, of course."
And finally, it Miranda Priestly'd our style.
- "I bet some of you have fancy rain boots reserved just for weddings, don't you?"
- "It's like every Seattleite is always ready for an impromptu hike, even if they're just grabbing coffee."
Our take: We feel seen.
