After 30 years, Salt Lake City Chili's is closing

• Now guests are reliving their margarita nights, game days and Triple Dipper platters of yore.

State of play: If you think we're blowing this out of proportion, the restaurant left a lasting impression on "Queer Eye" star Tan France, one of the city's most notable residents.

• France decided to call Utah's capital his new home in 2006 following a visit to the restaurant, the celebrity stylist told the Salt Lake Tribune in 2018.
• "At the end of that meal, I said to my friend, 'I'm going to live here one day,'" said France, who was living in New York at the time.

Erin's thought bubble: Chili's also served me my first Salt Lake City meal when I interviewed for a job here in 2007.

• My soon-to-be employer gave the company card to a former co-worker and told him to "show me a good time" in SLC.
• "Where'd he take you?" the bosses asked eagerly the next morning, expecting I'd visited SLC classics like Red Iguana, Gourmandise or Spencer's. They were aghast when I recounted our feast of Southwestern Eggrolls and Big Smashers.

Yes, but: I, like Tan France, had felt God in this Chili's.

• After dinner, I called my mom and told her, "I gotta nail this interview. I love Salt Lake City."
• Nineteen years later, I'm still here.

Kim's thought bubble: I went back to Chili's Thursday after years away and I was genuinely surprised to find how packed it was on a weekday afternoon.

• I'll miss those salty, razor-thin tortilla chips.
• Luckily for us, seven other locations along the Wasatch Front remain open.
