Report: Salt Lake City, Nashville lead MLB expansion race

Salt Lake City and Nashville remain the "strongest two expansion markets" for Major League Baseball, USA Today's sports columnist Bob Nightengale wrote this week.

State of play: It's the latest update on Utah's chances to attract its first-ever MLB franchise to the state.

Meanwhile, the league has no plans to give Oakland a franchise, per USA Today.

Catch up quick: The Miller family, who previously owned the Utah Jazz, announced plans in 2023 to build a baseball stadium on the west side, aiming to attract a team.

In April, the Millers acquired Real Salt Lake and Utah Royals in a roughly $600 million deal, the Athletic reported.
