How to "adopt" a Utah bird

With Mother's Day around the corner and Father's Day coming soon, the Audubon Society is promoting its bird adoption program as a gift for a nature-lover.

How it works: Your donation — typically $60 per bird, with some multi-bird collections at a discount — goes toward advocacy, education and habitat conservation for the bird you choose.

You also get a plush toy of the bird and a certificate of "adoption."

Zoom in: Adoptable Utah birds include:

Common friends like the American robin and black-capped chickadee
Beloved Western birds like the mountain bluebird
The climate-vulnerable barn swallow and American goldfinch
Other fearsome birds of prey like the peregrine falcon, bald eagle, great horned owl, osprey and red-tailed hawk.

Zoom out: About 25 species are up for adoption.
