Old News: Jimmer Fredette's March Madness run

Yes, but: Four years later, Fredette would be king of the court in NCAA basketball.

State of play: It was his senior year, and the guard was getting buckets on the regular to a tune of 28.9 points per game in about 36 minutes a night.

• Fredette took home AP player of the year honors, along with the Wooden and Naismith awards, leading BYU to a 30-4 record. That earned them the No. 3 seed in the Southeast region.

Unfortunately, "Jimmer magic" would run out in the Sweet 16.

• The Cougars opened the March Madness tournament with a win over Wofford with Fredette pouring in 32 of the team's 74 points.
• They'd beat Gonzaga next with the star guard scoring 34 in an 89-67 win.
• But the season would come to an end in the Sweet 16 with an overtime loss to Florida despite Fredette's 32 points, and that would mark the end of his legendary run at BYU.

What happened next: He would go on to be picked 10th in the NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks before being traded to the Sacramento Kings. But Fredette would never recapture the magic he had in college.

• He spent parts of three season with the Kings before playing for Chicago, New Orleans, New York and ending his career with the Phoenix Suns.
• Known for his scoring, he averaged just 7.6 points per game his rookie year and would never eclipse that mark.
