Here's who will make up the 2034 Winter Olympics organizing committee

Olympic officials and Gov. Spencer Cox on Friday named former House Speaker Brad Wilson as the CEO of the 2034 Winter Olympics organizing committee.

Why it matters: Wilson will help lead the group in charge of putting together Utah's second Winter Games, which was awarded to Salt Lake City last summer.

State of play: Fraser Bullock, the chief operating officer and chief financial officer for the 2002 Winter Olympics, was announced as the committee's executive chair and president. Bullock played in integral role to bring the global event back to Utah.

Businessman Steve Starks, who is the governor's Olympics advisor, will serve as vice chair.
Cox and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall will be honorary chairs. Utah Senate President Stuart Adams and House Speaker Mike Schultz were named honorary vice chairs.

Context: Wilson's new role comes after he stepped down from the Utah Legislature in 2023 to pursue a bid to replace Sen. Mitt Romney in the U.S. Senate.

Romney served as the CEO of the organizing committee for the 2002 games.
