Salt Lake City Council strikes deal to develop proposed Power District

The intrigue: The area would be dubbed the Power District.

• The land spans from the Jordan River to Redwood Road and North Temple to I-80.

Catch up quick: Last year, the Larry H. Miller Company, owners of the Salt Lake Bees and formerly the Utah Jazz, launched a campaign to attract MLB, with plans to build a new stadium.

• The Utah Legislature set a Dec. 31 deadline for the agreements to be approved.

By the numbers: Here's what the development agreement entails:

• 10%, or around 9.5 acres, of the property must be open space.
• 10% of new residential units must be affordable for households earning 80% of the area's median income.
• 20% of residential units must be "family-sized" (at least two bedrooms) and at market rate.

What they're saying: "This project is an incredible opportunity to honor the west side's legacy while creating new opportunities for all our residents," council Chair Victoria Petro said in a statement.
