Väsen Brewing is opening a second location on Forest Hill Ave. with an in-house restaurant

The big picture: Väsen co-owners Joey Darragh and Tony Giordano opened the first Väsen in Scott's Addition in 2017.

• For the second location of their award-winning brewery, the Virginia natives who moved back after stints on the West Coast were looking for more of a community and neighborhood vibe over the bustle of Scott's Addition, they told RVAMag.
• They also wanted to break Richmonders' bizarre aversion to crossing the river.
• They landed on a space just south of the James at 5047 Forest Hill Ave., where a dog mural went up over the summer. The building most recently housed The Westover restaurant.

• Expect ample outdoor seating, bike racks at least 16 draft taps, draft cocktails and wine, per RVAMag.

Worth noting: Väsen is the second Scott's Addition-based brewery to look south of the river for expansion.

• The Veil opened a Forest Hill location in 2020, directly across the street from Väsen's new location.
• And Lucky AF announced last month that the second location of its Scott's Addition sushi joint would also land on Forest Hill Ave., about three blocks east of the breweries.
