Driving the news: Portland's Urban Forestry division is working to increase tree canopy in the neighborhoods most vulnerable to excessive heat.
The "Free Trees for Portlanders" program, funded by the Portland Clean Energy Fund, is just like it sounds: anyone can register here, anyone can get a tree.
