My husband and I pulled up to After Ours for a pre-dinner drink on a recent Saturday, listening to Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim in the car…only to find the bar playing the exact same song as we walked in.
Why it matters: We were immediately smitten with the hip new vinyl bar in Northeast Portland, and that was before we even tried the cocktails.
What to try: The Pandan Colada goes down almost too easily, with a nutty pandan coconut foam to balance out its sweetness.
The Our Margarita will make you pucker. Skip the straw and sip from the glass for a taste of the lime and chili rim.
Yes, but: I'm a classics girl (see: my taste in music) and the gin & tonic was my favorite. A salted lime shrub and grapefruit bitters give it a twist on the norm.
What's next: The food — by chef Richard Le of Mémoire Cà Phê and Matta — smelled, and looked, fantastic. We'll be back.
