It's been a big month for Kachka, Portland's beloved Soviet-era eatery: Owners Israel and Bonnie Morales launched their own house-distilled wheat vodka and opened a new cocktail bar.
Best bites: The bar brings an all-new menu, where regional seafood steals the spotlight.
Shrimp cocktail, cod liver on rye, tinned fish and oyster shooters in vodka round out the small snack options.
Full-plate highlights include scallops with corn milk foam and buckwheat furikake, marinated mussel salad, clam poutine and Kachka's classic pelmeni.
This glorious seafood tower is also on the menu. Need we say more? Photo: Courtesy of AJ Meeker
The vibe: The 46-seat bar sits inside Kachka's 2,500-square-foot factory, alongside its vodka distillery and dumpling workshop.
Both the bar and second-floor loft give guests a view of copper-clad stills while sipping horseradish and strawberry vodka martinis.
If you go:Kachka Fabrika (2117 NE Oregon Street) is open from 4-11pm on Thursday, Sunday and Monday, and until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Kachka vodka is also sold at Kachka Lavka and select Oregon liquor stores.
