Portland Art Museum to open expanded campus in November

• The $111 million project, largely funded by private donors, adds nearly 100,000 square feet to the museum, new galleries — including one focused on Black art — and public terraces.
• Plus: The museum is adding nearly 300 newly acquired works, some that "have rarely or never before been on view," by artists such as Jeffrey Gibson, Simone Leigh and Ugo Rondinone, according to a news release.

Between the lines: It's the latest revitalization effort that aims to bring visitors back downtown.

What they're saying: "The new PAM will create a dynamic destination for the arts, reinvigorating our city and offering expanded opportunities to engage audiences with art from around Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and the world," Brian Ferriso, the museum's director, said in a press release.

Zoom in: The halls inside will also get a makeover. Patrons can now view works organized by their thematic similarities, rather than by place or time period.

• "More intuitive pathways" will guide visitors through the four floors of gallery space across both buildings, with "increased visibility for PAM's Native American and contemporary art collections."

If you go: The newly renovation museum will be unveiled on Nov. 20, but it remains open — Wednesday through Sunday — while the final phases of construction are ongoing.
