Final plans for downtown Portland's Darcelle XV Plaza revealed

The intrigue: Plans also call for the park to be fully fenced, with Downtown Clean & Safe set to open and close the park each morning and evening.

• Aside from cultural gardens and preserves, that will make Darcelle XV Plaza, named for the city's most famous drag queen, the only fully-fenced park in Portland.

What they're saying: The fencing, which will incorporate historic cast iron gates salvaged from the Smith and Watson Building, will offer some savings to people holding events in the park, Portland Parks & Recreation's Ross Swanson told KOIN.

• "For those folks who do want to have an event here that is fenced, we've provided a fence for you," he said. "So that brings a lower dollar threshold to come and actually have an event downtown."

What's next: Construction is set to begin soon and officials said they hope to open the plaza by late summer or early fall.
