Five of Portland's leading candidates for mayor sat down in front of hundreds of voters — packed in pews at the First Congregational United Church last night — to answer questions about homelessness, housing and salvaging the public's trust in police.
Yes, but: One of the most interesting inquiries was when they were asked what other candidate running for the same job they'd rank second on their ballot in the city's first-ever ranked choice election.
What they're saying: Commissioner Rene Gonzalez picked his fellow City Council colleague Commissioner Mingus Mapps, and vice versa.
Liv Osthus chose Commissioner Carmen Rubio, while Rubio echoed support for Osthus.
Keith Wilson was the outlier. "I am not going to vote for a second person," he said.
